Diabetic Foot Assessment
Diabetic foot assessments detect patients at risk for developing a diabetes-related foot ulceration and can significantly reduce the risk of amputation. It is important to know if you have lost any sensations in your feet or have reduced circulation. For example, if you have reduced sensations and are not able to feel an open wound or injury, such as blister, it has the potential to become infected.
IT IS RECOMMENDED BY DIABETES AUSTRALIA TO HAVE YEARLY DIABETIC FOOT SCREENING
At Phoenix Podiatry we perform Ankle Brachial Index testing as a part of routine Diabetic Foot screening. We also check your ability to feel sharp injuries and identify any other issues that may lead to ulcers, such as heavy callouses or bony prominence. Timely detection of any issues allows us to develop a plan that helps to prevent foot or toe amputation.
A separate appointment is necessary to perform all of the tests and it is covered by Medicare for patients under Care Plans
If you are not sure what is your risk of developing a foot ulcer let us know and we will organise your appointment for foot screening and education on Footcare with Diabetes
